Life at Bolt

Our Story

We’re on a mission to democratize commerce

Prior to founding Bolt, our CEO, Ryan, spent years familiarizing himself with online checkout from the inside-out. Starting in high school, Ryan spent six years building ecommerce sites for businesses of all sizes — from small mom and pop shops to large corporations. It was during this time that he experienced first-hand the shortcomings of the online commerce space, which inspired him to design a better alternative.

At Stanford

While enrolled in Stanford’s Computer Science program, Ryan co-founded the Stanford Bitcoin Group, spearheading research into crypto-currencies, blockchain technologies, and alternative financial systems.

Early 2014

Founding Bolt

Bolt was founded in early 2014, with a vision to set a new standard for ecommerce.

Bolt Launch

A scrappy, yet mighty team of 10 worked tirelessly for 2 years building the plumbing and middleware to create V1 of Bolt’s checkout solution.

Bolt officially launched its first merchant with just the payment step.

Our Growth

Bolt’s product and team has grown by leaps and bounds — raising $215M in funding and growing by over 200 team members and 250+ retailers.

In the process, we've also built an award-winning culture and workplace. Our team is recognized by Inc., Built In, Forbes, Fortune and others.

Where We Work

Our teams are currently working from anywhere. However, when we aren’t working remotely, we like to call these locations our home away from home.

San Francisco

We’re headquartered in the heart of downtown San Francisco. Our office is within walking distance to plenty of coffee shops, good eats, and public transit centers.

Salt Lake City

Our second-largest office in downtown SLC where teammates in Business Development, Customer Experience, and Risk work from a historic 100-year-old building.

Oh, Canada – our first international office is located in bustling Downtown Toronto.

New York City

Our East Coast hub. This office primarily consists of field teams such as sales, partnerships, and customer support.

Bolt supports remote work in the following locations:
