Celebrating Black History Month at Bolt

Bolt Team

We celebrate this Black History Month with pride, but also knowing that this is just another step in the long journey toward equality!

This year in particular it feels especially important to publicly recognize Black History Month. At Bolt, we have spent the last year-plus striving to embrace the spirit of Black History Month all year long, by supporting and uplifting team members of all different backgrounds. We have done this by:

  • Making progress against aggressive new DEI standards for hiring across our entire organization
  • Dedicating time and resources to building up communities for under-represented groups within Bolt.

To symbolize our ongoing commitment to supporting the black community, we will change our logo in honor of Black History Month. Our mission has always been to uplift entrepreneurs and growing businesses, like those in the Black community, by leveling the playing field and democratizing ecommerce. This logo change demonstrates not only our ongoing commitment to equality through ecommerce, but also through the company culture we are consciously growing at Bolt.

In addition, our team has put together a slate of internal educational and social events, fundraisers, and blog posts to celebrate and honor Black History, as well as our black communities:

  • [Internal Event]: Friday Content Club: To celebrate Black History Month, Content Club will focus their discussion on black culture as exhibited through sitcoms and movies in their Friday meetups.
  • [Post]: Bolt Womens’ Network (BWN) & Bolt Asian Affinity Network Group (BAANG) team up to spotlight Madam Vice President Kamala Harris
  • [Post]: Unidos (Bolt’s Latinx affinity group) presents a look at Afro-Latinx culture/community
  • [Internal Event]: LendTable CEO & Co-founder Mitchell Jones joins us for a fireside chat
  • [Fundraiser]: Bolt is holding a raffle with proceeds going to organizations that empower the black community: WeThrive, Black Girls Code, and East Oakland Collective.
  • [Activity]: Support a local black-owned business — Bolt is giving every team member $15 to put toward lunch or coffee at a black-owned business near them!

At Bolt, we are United + Unique. This means we work hard to value, uplift, and honor the cultures, histories, and backgrounds of all of our team members day in and day out. It also means continually educating ourselves and strengthening our understanding to become better allies and partners. We celebrate this Black History Month with pride, but also knowing that this is just another step in the long journey toward equality!
